Through her work with textiles, embroidery and ceramics, artist Stephanie Baechler investigates the sensual experience that has become increasingly rare through today’s technologies.
‘Dear Clay’ gathers a selection of spreads from her sketchbooks (2013 – 2019), as well as 35 mm photographs documenting her working process. Providing an intimate insight into her artistic practice, it follows the work from its conception to its making, transportation, and installation. Rather than presenting it as a final staged object, we see the work as something unpolished, unfinished, in flux.
This beautifully published book has been selected as one of the most beautiful Swiss books of 2020. It comes with a woven bookmark and letters by author Jan Verwoert and designer Rudy Guedj.
